I’ve Resigned as ADP’s Organic Search Manager

In what has become an exciting turn of events, another chapter of my career is underway.

As the title suggests, I have resigned from ADP, Inc. and will remain on hand for transitional efforts through February 6, 2009. My time spent with ADP has been incredibly enlightening. From the highs of successful projects to the automotive industry’s role in our economy, I have met a number of wonderful people and learned a wealth of knowledge.

Those who have known me a while likely know that I have co-founded two SEO firms in the past. Rather than start up another firm this time, I’m going to back to a simpler time of consulting on organic SEO and project management.

Thankfully too, I am fully booked and unable to accept any new contract work or opportunities. This is a very, very good opportunity both to exit ADP and make the most of a new and exciting opportunity. There may be more details in coming months, too.

2009 SEMMY Award Finalist in 2 Categories

I’ve been named a finalist in two separate SEMMY Award categories. Please support the SEMMY Awards and their fairness by voting for what you feel are the best articles prior to .

Google 2009 Finalist
Sitelinks Research, Examples, Theories and Best Practices
This post came shortly after my SMX East 2008 Panel on Google SiteLinks. With assistance, feedback and findings reported back from other search marketers, this post was aimed at providing some opportunities for SEOs and webmasters to better control their domain’s Google SiteLinks. I’m up against excellent posts from Aaron Wall (What is a #1 Google Ranking Worth?) and one from Bill Slawski (How Google Universal Search and Blended Results May Work).

Rants – 2009 Finalist
Ranting: Google & Online Reputation Management
I guess it isn’t much of a surprise that if I were going to have a quality rant, it’d be about Google. I do find it somewhat laughable though thata rant of mine might be compared alongside one from Rae Hoffman. Her post about these SEMMY Awards (The SEMMYS Launch, The Whineys TBA) joins Danny Sullivan’s Crappy MP3 Sites, Comment Spamming & Enough Already and David Harry’s Social Media Cash Grab as competing finalists.

Google SEMMY Award Nomination

Last year Matt McGee and others involved in the SEMMY Awards nominated one of my writings for award consideration. I just got an email that for the second straight year, I’ve produced something that the SEMMY judges feel is valuable.

Right now, my article and project on Google Sitelinks is available under the heading of Google – All 2009 Nominees. Keep an eye on the SEMMY Awards as judges will now begin to limit the fields of nominees down before beginning to acquire the public / popular voting.

Quick Recap of Affiliate Summit West 2009

Just got back in from Las Vegas and Affiliate Summit 2009, and wanted to express many thanks to Shawn Collins, Missy Ward and the entire ASWO9 crew. The conference was excellent and the conversations better than ever.

And… Our organic SEO site review panel was fantastic.

A word of thanks to Scott Polk (@scottpolk) for assembling our panel with David Snyder (@davesnyder), Carolyn Shelby (@cshel) and adding in Todd Friesen (@oilman) to handle the mic and field questions from the audience.

To those of you who were there in attendance – thank you too for providing us with a diverse group of sites and questions to answer. Excellent, excellent times.

Project Jump Start Participation

I haven’t been blogging much, but did want to quickly cover Project Jump Start and why I’m choosing to be involved.

Our industry can suck sometimes. There’s a lot of finger pointing, calling out, name calling and veiled disrespect thrown around daily. I’ve both contributed to and been the focus of that nonsense. As I learn more each day, actions speak louder than words.

Rather than sit back and watch the community attack itself, I’ve chosen to be involved with DazzlinDonna‘s Project Jump Start. It’s an initiative that gets those who have been successful in search and social media to give back to those looking to do the same.

Small efforts can surely add. Project Jump Start will absolutely be an example of this for 12 motivated individuals. Please take some time now to read more about the project and the purpose.

I want to thank David Harry (@theGypsy) for mentioning this on Twitter and catching my attention with it.

We’ve all got the ability to help improve things if we decide to take action and not just talk a good game. I’d encourage anyone to get involved in this, and applaud good friend Jeff Quipp and Samir Balwani for their participation, too. And you too, should you join us.
