New to my blog? You may want to learn more about me, subscribe to my RSS feed or follow me on Twitter.

Okay, it’s official.  I’m speaking at Scary SEO, a first year SEO conference making it’s debut on October 24th & 25th in Deerfield Beach Florida.

Don’t believe me? I even have a speaker bio, check it out!

Since Scary SEO is in it’s first year, I need to be clear. This event is something I’m really excited about on a number of levels.  But first, let’s run down the basics of what Scary SEO is and what it’s all about.

Scary SEO is intentionally being launched as a mini-conference for search marketing professionals.  The event is being organized by Search and Social under the careful direction of the organization’s founders, Dave Snyder and Jordan Kasteler.

Intentionally? Yes. At least, that’s my understanding. The even is being limited to 50 attendees which will create an intimate atmosphere between speakers and attendees.  To be clear, this is not going to be your SEO 101 type event.  You’re not only going to have great access to seasoned professionals – you’re going to learn some solid techniques.

Scary SEO Speaker List

Any search conference is measured by the talent behind the mic, and for that, I have to give an incredible amount of credit to Dave and Jordan for assembling this cast of professionals.  With the exception of me of course…

Seriously.  If you take my name out of there, that’s nothing short of an incredible list.

While you may not see a Danny Sullivan or Jason Calacanis keynoting this event, you’re gaining access to the big players who have worked in the trenches of search marketing for years.  And make no mistake about it, you’ve got to be serious about search marketing if you want to make the most of your experience at Scary SEO.

The Scary SEO Agenda

While the speakers themselves are worth the price of admission, the agenda looks to be an excellent blend of organic, paid and universally driven search topics.

Here is a list of the panels scheduled for the event:

  • The Code of SEO: Coding and Design concepts that improve your SEO efforts
  • Link Building: The Basics and Beyond
  • SEM Strategies: How to make paid search work for you
  • Protect Your Rep: Online Reputation Management
  • SEO Tools Sponsored by SEOmoz
  • SMO Tactics: How optimize social media for use in your SEO
  • Importance of Analytics: Beyond clickstream data
  • SEO Project Management and Educating Clients
  • Information Architecture and Content Creation Plans

The Cost of Admission

Great list of speakers. Only 50 general attendees to the conference. Insanely great weather in Southern Florida at the end of October… Scary SEO will be super expensive, right?

No. Scary SEO only costs $200 to attend. Even if all you wanted was an expo pass to SMX East, you’d be paying $399. A one day package for SES Chicago? That will set you back $745. Seriously now… $200? Go register. I’ll wait here and see you in October.

Additionally Awesome Details

Cheap Hotel Rooms! Having clients in the area, I’ve stayed at the Hilton Deerfield Beach, the hotel hosting the conference. And when I was there I was quite sure my employer shelled out much more than the $159 per night room rate that Scary SEO attendees can take advantage of.

Food, Coffee and More Food! Your brain won’t be fading off on you at Scary SEO like it would as you run from one expo hall to another. Scary SEO attendees will get complimentary food to nom nom nom on the entire time they’re in sessions. Starting with a continental breakfast, you can then enjoy a a mid morning break with coffee, teas, water, etc. Then you can move on into lunch with a great selection of Italian meals and pizzas. And just when that food coma sets in, you can score some more caffeine and sugar with an afternoon break of coffee, soft drinks, cookies, brownies and other snacks.

Sponsored Parties & Nightlife! Mix one part Southern Florida with two parts search geeks… and well, it’s party time. SEOmoz is going to get things started Friday night when they send us off in a Limo Bus on an excursion to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. It’s not only the Hard Rock either, as we’ll be in the middle of the Seminole Paradise Shops until 2AM.

Saturday night looks like it’ll be an IMCharity Event, a staple now for the giving group of search marketers that frequent industry events. Helping us give to a great cause will be Search Engine Journal, Agency Web and Search Engine People as they too will be sponsoring some extracurricular activities for us all. :)

Go Register Already!

You can’t afford to miss out on Scary SEO… So Register TODAY. And if you don’t? I’ll hunt you down for being one of my three blog readers not excited to meet me and see me speak in person on a couple of really cool topics (which, I’ll be posting a bit more on as Scary SEO rolls on up on our calendars…). And I’ll do bad things to you.

I’ve been hearing about this event for months and I’d probably have made the trip if not hosting a local search intensive here in Los Angeles on the 25th.

Would have been an easy flight to Fort Lauderdale. My mom lives nearby so I would have had a designated driver. :)

Have a blast of an event!

Eric, after I talked to you I went to look and guess what? Prices went up! I am so close to you guys too! Tell Jeff Quipp hi! He is one of my favorite SEOs! It is hot as heck here, so bring shorts. When I got off the plane I was in shock. The weather in New York was amazing. Nice meeting you. Check out my “SEO’s that remind me of Star Wars Characters” on Facebook :-) Which one do you think you are?
